St. John the Evangelist School Music Program
_St. John the Evangelist School Music Program, directed by Mr. Jason Alderuccio,
recognizes that all children are musical.
Mr. Alderuccio understands that early childhood music instruction is an essential part
of the brain development which compliments various aspects of school subjects such as,
math and reading. Music is written in “measures”, or small blocks of which there are a
certain number of beats. Younger children learn essential math counting and fraction skills
through music instruction. Students develop reading skills by learning the words of a song
that they will sing and understanding that the notes on the page have meaning.
St. John the Evangelist School music program also helps build social communication
when interacting within a large group. Children learn to take turns, listen to the instructions
and respect others when it is their turn to sing or play an instrument. Our music program revolves
around building each student's potential and builds upon self-confidence.
All students participate with poise in our enriched music environment. Mr. Alderuccio teaches
the students a broad variety of songs that range in musical scales, rhythms and styles. Christmas
and spring concerts are performed by all the students to an audience of parents, grandparents, aunts,
uncles and family friends. Our classes are immersed in joyful expression. Music teachings at St. John
the Evangelist School, are an enhancement and developmental aspect of our core academic curriculum
and supports our students cognitive, language, emotional, social and physical development.
St. John the Evangelist School believes that music instruction is a vital part to our student’s success
in social and higher academic education. Our program strives to positively impact our students learning
and success in their everyday lives and future endeavors.
Through a fun and participatory curriculum, our students develop their music potential both individually
and in a group setting. Our music instruction thrives to form a strong foundation for the life-long enjoyment
of music, and offers the opportunity, if desired, for band instrumental instruction.
Mr. Alderuccio holds and Associates degree from Naugatuck Valley Community College and currently attends
Western Connecticut State University to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. He is also the Director of
Music Ministry for St. Pius X Church and Shrine in Wolcott, Connecticut, conducting a small children's choir
and a 12 member adult choir. He is a section leader for the Naugatuck Valley Community College Choir, and
the Richard Gard Singers, in which both groups have sung backup for Kenny Rogers, Kenny Loggins, and Andy Williams.
In Mr. Alderuccio's spare time he teaches ninth grade confirmation class at St. Pius X Church, and volunteers on many other committees there as well.
